DS-2019 for a repeat consulate interview — wait or request a new one?

Something’s off with these timelines. Can you tell me: do I need to request a new DS-2019 to go for a repeat interview at the consulate, or is it better to just wait? When do they even issue it for a re-application?

look, the DS-2019 is usually valid for a while, but if it’s about to expire — ask your sponsor for a new one; without a fresh one the consulate will turn you away. I have friends who reapplied at the Krakow consulate — they went with an updated DS-2019 and everything went fine. Don’t psych yourself out, you’ll get through it )

If SEVIS has expired — you definitely need a new one; without it the consulate won’t even speak to you. I saw a case in SF — the guy waited in administrative processing (A/P) for a year and eight months; in the end they had to send a new DS-2019 in September because the old one had expired, even though the case itself hadn’t moved.

Oh, a friend of mine was in AP for a year and eight months. Even though her case didn’t move, her SEVIS ended up expiring and they had to submit a new DS-2019. So don’t wait — ask your sponsor right away; the consulate will still accept a fresh DS-2019 as proof that they’re still expecting you. Hang in there, you’ll get through this

Ask the sponsor right away — they’ll issue it within a week; the DS-2019 is valid for a maximum of one year.
