I came across a question and don’t know how to answer — if when changing a US visa the “admitted” date in the I-94 becomes different, is the F‑1 status automatically lost? The logic seems clear: a new “admitted” would mean the status is formally updated. Does anyone know how this works in practice — please advise.
When entering on a B visa, your status is updated — you lose your F-1 status.

Technically, F1 status is lost if you enter on a B visa — yes. The I-94 is issued based on the status you enter with. I’ve heard of a case: someone changed status to F1 via COS, went to Canada, returned on a B visa, and CBP recorded them as a tourist with a new I-94. To re-enter specifically as an F1 you need an F1 visa in your passport; after changing status inside the United States you don’t have one — only by going to a consulate abroad to get the actual stamp.
