Is it possible to get a codice fiscale on a tourist visa? I read that they don’t issue it. And without it you can’t open a bank account — so how do you deal with financial matters at all?
The codice fiscale (Italian tax code) they give you right away for tourists — you go to the Agenzia delle Entrate (Italian Revenue Agency) with your passport and write a justification — like “for renting” or “to open an account.” But getting a bank account at a regular bank without residency is a lottery: some people open one at Intesa or Fineco, while others are refused with no explanation. For the time being Wise or Revolut solve almost all issues; later, once you have residenza (residency), you can go to a proper bank.
