Can you tell me how to get my education evaluated for a US visa? I have five years of higher education and always thought that was equivalent to a bachelor’s degree, but now I’m unsure. Where should I apply and how does the process work?
When evaluated, a five-year diploma is considered a master’s everywhere — I’ve been through that.

Thanks, that’s clearer now. So you still have to pay for and request a credential evaluation to officially confirm that it’s a bachelor’s plus a master’s, or is the diploma itself recognized as such everywhere?

You need to order an evaluation — the diploma won’t explain itself anywhere. I sent the original with a translation, it went through without an apostille, and in about 2–3 weeks I received an official statement that it’s a master’s degree in the US. Google ‘foreign diploma evaluation’ — there’s a list of accredited organizations, pick any.

For immigration purposes a general evaluation is enough — a course-by-course is only required when applying to a U.S. university. When I gathered documents for my petition I got a general one; it was three pages: the degree was found equivalent to a U.S. master’s degree, the GPA was recalculated, and there was a list of courses. The main thing is that the company must be on the NACES or AICE list — USCIS doesn’t accept others.

From my experience with EB-1A — in the credential evaluation you should explicitly state the purpose: an immigration petition, not just employment. Then the evaluation will specify the degree, specialization and level of study — the officer reads that alongside the description of your role in the petition, so consistency between the two documents is important.

IEE handled mine without any interaction with the university — they just used copies with translations, and it was ready in three weeks. For immigration purposes it’s the same procedure as a general evaluation; a course-by-course evaluation is only needed if you want to continue studying in the US and apply somewhere.
