My husband’s seasonal contract ends in October, and there’s no work until spring. He worked for 7 months — is that enough to be eligible for unemployment benefits? Has anyone applied after a seasonal job? Tell me how it works and whether it’s even worth trying.
listen, this is important about the filing deadlines - as far as I remember, you have to make it within the first 68 days after the contract ends, otherwise you lose everything. my friend applied through a patronato in Prato after a seasonal job at a hotel; she had exactly 7 months and they accepted it without questions, but that’s her case.
About the deadlines - you have to submit the DID (declaration of immediate availability) within the first 15 days after dismissal, otherwise your period as unemployed won’t count and NASpI (the unemployment benefit) will be delayed. And the amount itself is calculated from the average salary over 4 years, not from the last contract - people are often surprised when they see the calculation.
If he actually worked seven months on the books, contributions are all in order — at minimum 13 weeks over four years and 30 working days. But NASpI (Italian unemployment benefit) is calculated on the average salary over the whole four years, not on the last season, so the amount often ends up lower than you expect. And the DID (Declaration of Immediate Availability) must be filed within 15 days; otherwise the period won’t count toward your record — that’s critical.
