Accompanying visa or резиденция элетива — what should my wife write on the form?

Can anyone tell me who entered under the chosen place of residence? If the husband is the main earner, what should the wife put on the visa application? Elective residency (резиденция элетива) as well, or should she apply for a dependent/accompanying person visa? I just can’t figure out how this is done correctly.

If you are officially married, only one spouse receives the D visa — in your case the husband who has the income. The wife then comes via family reunification, not as a separate applicant for an elective residency (‘eletiva’ (элетива)). The wife’s income is not required — the husband’s income is sufficient.

Thanks, now at least there’s some clarity. And is the family reunification done at the same time the husband submits his application, or only after he gets the visa?

There is also a D visa for the wife on the basis of al seguito (following the principal applicant) — this is a separate route from the usual family reunification. Essentially a nulla osta is required for family members, and the wife enters already with a D visa, not a Schengen one. We’re currently clarifying how this should work in practice — I’ll share the concrete details once we have them.

Regarding the timing for the wife’s application — it depends on what stage the husband is at. If he already has a D visa but hasn’t yet entered Italy, you can request a nulla osta (нулла оста) for the family immediately, and the wife will then receive a D visa as an accompanying family member. If the husband has already entered and obtained a residence permit, the route is different: a nulla osta for family reunification and the wife enters with a separate D visa.
