I’m trying to find accommodation in Rome for a few days, but on Booking.com it’s at least 10,000 — and that’s a spot in a 6-person hostel that’s booked a month in advance. Are there other websites or options for short-term accommodation in Rome?
For short-term rentals without intermediaries, Facebook groups are better — there are Italian equivalents; search for “affitti brevi Roma” or “stanza Roma temporanea”. I also checked Spotahome and Uniplaces; prices are steep, but for a one- to two-month rental they can sometimes work out better than Airbnb. Immobiliare.it won’t do — it’s only for long-term rentals, usually with year-long contracts.
Thanks, I didn’t think about Facebook groups — I’ll try searching. I checked Spotahome; it’s really expensive, but at least it’s something.
Listen, also try bakeca.it and subito.it — there private landlords rent directly, sometimes with no commission at all. And if you’re willing to be a bit farther from the center, like Tiburtina or Pigneto, prices get much more reasonable, and it’s about a 15-minute metro ride to Termini.
Honestly, housing in Rome right now is really brutal — don’t expect to find something quickly. A lot of people do this: book on Booking.com or Airbnb for a month, then once they’re there they look for a long-term place through agencies by the time they need to get their fingerprints taken.
