Consulate called, I missed it — nothing in my email or Almaviva, what should I do?

I missed a call from the consulate. I haven’t received any email, and there’s nothing in Almaviva (альмавива) either. What does this mean — did they just try to call, or do I need to contact them myself? And if so, where should I write?

I’d call the visa center’s hotline and ask the question directly — I want to find out whether the call was just informational or if I need to call back. From my experience, messages going back and forth might not arrive at all; that’s normal. A direct call with the application number clears everything up in a couple of minutes.

Thanks, I’ll try calling the hotline. And is the application number the one that was in the email about the submission appointment?

I tried emailing the consulate’s visa section with questions — would this paper be acceptable, can one document be substituted for another. The answer was one: they don’t review documents by email; submit the full package, we’ll review everything and let you know if something’s wrong. So there’s no point in doing it in writing — only a phone call will do.

An additional request usually comes by email — with specific instructions on what needs to be sent. If there’s no email, the call was most likely just informational. From how I understand the process: if there are actual questions about the documents, they’ll either call back or you’ll receive a preliminary refusal with a written request — then you’ll need to reply and send scans of the missing documents.

I was roaming when they called and ran out of credit right in the middle of the call. I called the same number back — it hit the voicemail; I explained the situation to a specialist, gave my last name, and they connected me again with the same agent. So if you missed the call, you can call back yourself and explain you were unavailable — you don’t have to wait for them to call you again.

There’s total confusion among the staff. I called about a similar issue — one person said everything was fine, another (sitting right next to her, literally at the next desk) said, “oh no, that won’t work,” and they started arguing among themselves about who was right. In the end I asked for someone more senior — they gave a proper answer. So if you call back and they say something unclear, you can ask them to check with a senior specialist.

When they asked me for additional documents for my residence permit (ВНЖ), everything came through PEC — a specific list indicating exactly what needed to be sent. A call without a follow-up letter is, in my experience, informational — to clarify something or to warn. Call them back yourself, give the application number, explain you were unavailable — usually no problem.
