E11 is the USCIS code for the EB-1A category — a visa category, not an occupation. The USCIS website explicitly states: “For E-11 classification and national interest waiver filings, please include information in Part 6” — there they ask for the job title, SOC code, and a non-technical description of the position to confirm that the applicant meets the category. The occupation within E11 can be any — data engineering, medicine, the arts.

SOC code isn’t just a formality. When I filled out the I-140 myself, my attorney reminded me that the officer applies each criterion to the selected code — if something doesn’t line up, an RFE is almost guaranteed. Better to sort this out at the very beginning than to be rewriting half the petition later.
