Has anyone transitioned from a student F-1 to an EB-1? Everyone says it’s almost impossible — I’m curious whether that’s really true, or if it’s exaggerated?
I consulted with an attorney about a similar issue — he said you can file for EB-1A, obtain an EAD, and at the same time remain in F-1 status. Formally, that’s a workable scheme. Another matter is that EB-1 has really become more difficult — I’ve heard denials have become noticeably more common, especially for Russian citizens. So “almost impossible” is rather an exaggeration, but the bar has been raised significantly over the past couple of years.

What’s the difficulty? I think this is one of the most common cases of status change and transition within the country.
