EB-1A: approval after interview in Almaty

EB-1A approval Not specified EB1A interview Almaty resume

How it all went

Hi everyone! I’ll share the good news too — on April 29 we successfully passed the interview in Almaty for EB1a. The officer — a young mulatto — asked only a few questions about experience and plans, all in English. At one point he stepped away for quite a while, then returned and started writing and circling things on the form. He handed it back saying he would need me to send him my resume, and at that moment, like a magician, I pulled a copy of my resume out of my sleeve — “Here it is!” He looked at it, left again and returned saying “your visa is approved”. So my tip — keep a copy of your resume with you (I also had a copy of a support letter about employment on hand just in case). The next day emails arrived saying the visas were ready for all three of us. I called and asked if I could pick up all three passports (mine, my wife’s, and my daughter’s); I was assured I could. I arrive — and they hand me only mine and my daughter’s, and they flat-out refuse to give my wife’s passport. My wife had to go another day to collect her passport herself, and another employee there said to her, “why didn’t your husband pick up your passport himself the day before yesterday?” :man_facepalming: That was probably the only minor misunderstanding during our wonderful trip to Kazakhstan. I should also add that I wouldn’t have been too surprised by administrative processing (AP), since in 2014 I had already been subject to AP for a J-1 visa because of my education. But apparently the logic here is that if a candidate has already been successfully put through AP once, there’s no point torturing them again in the future).
