When should I go to the U.S. Consulate in Guangzhou for an interview — are they open year‑round?

I want to understand the schedule of the U.S. Consulate in Guangzhou. Is booking interview appointments open year-round, or do you need to apply at certain times? Are the interview questions at that U.S. consulate the same as elsewhere, or do they have any local specifics?

Booking in Guangzhou is a lottery — slots appear randomly and are snatched up within hours. In Warsaw I refreshed the page for three weeks until I caught a slot, and people say it’s even worse at Chinese consulates than in Europe. As for the interview/questions — it’s the standard DS-260, but I’ve heard they particularly press on ties to the home country and financial support, though maybe it depends on the specific officer.

slots at Asian consulates are a lottery — a colleague in Beijing spent 5 weeks refreshing the page to catch an appointment in Guangzhou. For the requirements — the standard set for any consulate, but “ties to home country” are checked more strictly there if you don’t have an employer or property that anchors you at home.
