I’m planning a holiday in Liguria; Genoa is definitely on the list. But I’d like to stop off somewhere else too, see something interesting and just breathe in the sea air. Does anyone have personal experience — what’s worth seeing there besides the usual tourist spots?
Oh, Liguria is totally my thing) If you get the chance, pop into Savona — lots of people skip it because of Genoa, but that’s a shame. And really, spend a couple of days in some small town, even if you usually prefer big cities — it’s a completely different experience. I used to be annoyed by villages, but now I only feel drawn to them.
In Genoa, by the way, transport is a real mess: buses are unreliable and the air conditioning doesn’t work. Driving’s tough too — there’s traffic and parking is impossible to find. So if you’re going to be getting around the region a lot, it might be better to base yourself in a small town and head out from there.
You absolutely have to check out Cinque Terre, it’s really beautiful and the train between the villages runs fine)
