I wanted to clarify — when applying for an O-1 visa, is there any time limit on materials you can use as evidence? Publications, citations, mentions in the press — if they’re from several years ago, do they still count? Or does the officer only look at the most recent years?
Support letters — yes, lawyers usually say they’re valid for at most a year — that’s because you need to show the current relevance of the work. But publications, citations, and press articles are a different matter: they document the fact of recognition at the time they come out and don’t really have an expiration date. The officer looks at the overall picture: if an article is old but shows that you were recognized in the field, that works. The main thing is that there’s a connection to the type of activity listed in the petition.
