That happens, not everyone there is a robot) Once I got an employee at the local office who called someone herself and sorted everything out — I was actually flustered. But when I went to renew later, a different person was there and I had to explain everything all over again.

It’s hit or miss at the Questura (immigration office) for me. One time I got a decent employee who explained everything, and six months later, for my renewal, another person was sitting there and acted like they were hearing about my situation for the first time. If I were you, I’d always write down the names and who you spoke to — sometimes you can ask for a specific counter.
