There used to be an option to renew an O-1 visa by mail, without an in-person interview at a U.S. consulate. You send the documents to the same place where you got the first one. Is that still being done or not? If anyone has done it recently, please tell me how things are now.
There is an interview waiver for the O-1, but with caveats. You can only renew in the same country where the previous visa was issued — this isn’t just for B1/B2; the same rule applies to O-1. Georgia, for example, didn’t accept non-residents even by mail — people had to go to other consulates. The specific consulate’s page usually states whether the interview-free option is available.
It used to be possible without an interview, so I’m asking how it is now. I’m renewing the visa in my passport rather than applying for a new O-1. I got the first one in the same country where I am now, so that’s fine. And have you recently been able to do it by mail, or are you also just checking the consulate website?
In Belgrade the post was working, but that’s specifically a Serbian thing, not everywhere.
