School in Milan for a 9-year-old with no Italian — how did you manage?

I’m looking for a good school in Milan for a 9-year-old. They don’t know any Italian yet. There are private Russian classes only on Saturdays, but that’s not an option as a main school. Has anyone faced this — how did you deal with it?

In the Italian school they understand that it’s hard without the language. In middle school they provided Italian lessons in a group for foreigners — four times a week, two lessons; the child goes to another classroom for Italian. It wasn’t from the first day; they organized it over about a month. If you plan to stay here, I would send them to an Italian liceo; they’ll accept them a year below, which isn’t critical, and the language will progress faster.

Thanks, radikko, that’s really helpful. And those groups for foreigners — do you have to find and request them yourself, or does the school offer them when you sign up?
